Pics of the Book Sale

I know this is coming in late but here’s a recap of the book sale. It may have been raining but it surely didn’t hinder the booklovers who came to the 1st Annual Book Sale and Mini-Carnival at the Hagatna Public Library.

Note to self: Next year come in earlier.

As it happened we arrived there after lunch and I was only able to find a handful of books I was interested in; books on music and several back issues of Writer’s Market. There was a mini-train ride and a few stalls selling food and refreshments, a few were selling goods like native jewelry and signs/stickers.

I managed to take a couple of pics, the first one is the actual book sale area and the next is the book mobile.

I think this book sale is a great idea and one which I do hope they’ll continue annually. It’s a great way to help raise funds for the library while at the same time discovering books you haven’t seen before. I really enjoyed looking at those old harbound books and bought several of them.

Mark Your Calendar

I’m looking forward to the 1st Annual Book Sale and Mini-Carnival which will be held at the N.M. Flores Memorial Public Library in Hagatna. The book sale will start on August 24 (Friday) from 10AM to 5PM, then on Saturday, August 25, the book sale continues with a mini-carnival from 8AM to 4PM.

The books will cost 25c to 75c and will go to support the library. There will also be several food and refreshment booths in the vicinity. So bring the whole family down at the Hagatna library, I’m sure it’ll be a blast.

Books is one of my passions so I’ll defintely be there. Can’t wait for Friday!

Finally, Cooler Classrooms!

Great news for public school students, especially those in Tamuning Elementary and Southern High - classrooms will be cooler this school year! This is due to the installation of airconditioners in the classrooms, the latest update is that Tamuning Elementary now has 100% fully airconditioned rooms, hopefully Southern High will follow.

I’m quite impressed with Katherine Reyes, the new principal of Tamuning Elementary, as well as the new assistant principal, Barbara Meno. In such a short time these women have shown good leadership and I have some friends whose kids go to Tamuning and say they noticed changes in the school in terms of rules, policies and discipline.

I hope they continue to do their jobs well.

First Day of School

Public schools are opening today and approximately 31,000 students will eagerly and anxiously see their classroom, meet their teachers and make new friends as well. Let’s hope this school year will be more peaceful and successful than the previous ones. Hopefully the air-conditioning problems would be resolved before the month ends.

More Concerns About Military Buildup

Lt. Gov. Mike Cruz visited Washington and was surprised at the lack of knowledge of several officials regarding the impact of military build-up on Guam. Geez, this doesn’t appease my worries one bit. I think all involved parties should have open communication, devise a plan that would be fair to everyone involved (the coming military and the people of Guam), and address certain concerns regarding the issue.

Guamazing Race

Guam’s first reality-based competition patterned to the popular show Amazing Race. Contestants are paired up and asked to perform difficult, at times gruelling tasks. They need to solve clues, complete challenges and do it all quickly or else risk elimination. For those who missed the three-part broadcast, someone (God bless him or her) uploaded the videos on Google.

Bats and UFO’s

Nah, I’m not trying to scare you, just wanted to share these interesting articles I found relating to Guam:

The Guam UFO At 60 – Apparently someone on Guam had a UFO encounter 60 years ago.

Vampire Bats Heading to Guam – No, it’s not what and who you think, so read on.

Zoos on Guam

If you and your family love animals, there are two places I’ve personally visited which offers hands-on experience with animals. One is the Southern Ranch where a miniature horse freely roam around and mingle with vistors. you can also ride the horses. The other is at the Cushing’s Zoo in Tumon which has a wider variety of animals. Here’s a video featuring some of the animals you can see there:

The Chocolate and Love Connection

I love chocolate! For some reason I’m not fond of hard candies, cookies nad other sugary concoctions except chocolates. My fave brand is Toblerone, followed by Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and then Cadbudry’s.

And for those who also have a sweet tooth, here’s another reason to love chocolate.
